started a batch of ginger beer last night: shredded a ginger root, added a cone-shaped piloncillo of raw sugar, and boiled it for a few minutes. after it cooled down, added some yeast and stirred. this morning it was bubbling, so I poured it into a gallon bottle, leaving as much of the ginger in the pot as I could, topped it off with water and added a little grapeseed oil at the top as a one-way valve. it's bubbling away nicely in the sun right now.
