I want to play with some opengl stuff, but don't want to have to buy another powerful laptop, and this netbook can't run it. so I've been attempting to connect via vnc to an Ubuntu AWS instance. I'm following this tutorial except for using tightvncserver instead of vnc-server. had to open up both ports 5901 and 5908 on the firewall, because I tried twice and it used the different ports.
anyway, where it stands so far is that I can connect over the tunnel, but the desktop is empty. I mean, nothing clickable at all.
